Carrie Cutler is a poet of the icky bits, the poor bits, the bits where you have to scrape to get by or, you know, the world for the growing majority of the people in the US. She was a homeless teenage girl, a blue collar worker, has done sex work and teaches introductory composition to first year students. While she can't claim she did everything for love, she did nearly everything for understanding. She knows that will count for something, in the long run.
