Still Life With Misgivings

Bailing out in a thunderstorm is hard to do.
Still in harness, you land bruised on a field.

Pick up your spyglass. Check the horizon.
Clouds turn it into a ragged line.

I wander a beach with long low tides
where sanderlings scuttle across the sand.

When silence clambers through the windows
the dawn chorus scrambles to be next.

I dream that dream where willows call
the green flash of sunset into their leaves.
