Our Book

We write the story of a ship
taking on water, turned back
to port, anchor pulling
chain to rope, a scope
for teeth to hook bottom mud.

Or the story of a dogwood
first to flute buds
green against white
winter, sensing the axle held
its angle and sun will return

as ships do, sailing east
until west.  We trade
in subject and verb, avoid
adjectives:  draft, set, blossom,
ink, salt, print, opening.
