The Day of the New Windows

On the election year platform
facelift for the south side Green

Line, graffiti buried in leftover
paint, photographers guarded

by police escort, the first heat
of spring its own kind

of violence.

The sun on the polished glass
ceiling, the reflection, the bird

dive, the deflection
and the rapid hurt.

A small crowd to remember
a smudge the cameras avoid.

The five o’ clock wants

a new angle.

Chicago, we will leave the body, the red
wing extended, beckoning its blackbird.
