I like the sound of ice
hitting an empty glass,
and rain,
drizzling large drops
that splat on pavement.

The ice hits hollow.
It echoes for less than
half a second.

The rain hits hard.
It makes me feel.
Rather, it forces me.

I’ve left the door unlocked.
I’ve no fear of home invasions,
despite the rise of them in local
news reports.

I’ve simply nothing left
save longing.
