The Proposal

My love, if I offered
anchors locked in our breath
for each flight
through radiant symmetries of air

& listened all night
to the tongueless
hummingbirds
that mill in the wells
of your touch -
would I soon hear
their wings
grind the stone of your no
into sand

& could we then
see by the light
of our blood?
And post dolmens
in the extreme sky
with our speechless flights?
Yes, she said
I'll open the wings of my blood,
my love,
               come
join me
in a conspiracy of dust.
