Memory

when will the old puppetry explode
into technicolor reality again?
and shouldn’t the texas summers melt a crayola-like
mess in the recesses of my cranium?

instead, a murky shadowscape
dull as the bayou waters,
sepia-drenched polaroids flip past:
a zoetrope spinning in a half lit room.

this tense shift is a stolen scene.
it’s a gray matter.
